FIU Percussion has its roots in 2012 when the first indoor percussion ensemble was started at FIU named “Momentum”. The ensemble competed locally and was under the director of founder Brandon Cruz. The next year saw the groups first trip to Ohio and a name change to “Velocity Indoor Percussion”. The following year saw the groups first placement in finals where they placed 8th as well as won the fan favorite award.
In 2015 the ensemble had a director change and current FIU Director of Percussion Christian Cruz-Vargas took the reigns. In the following years the group has won 3 more fan favorite awards, and an A class bronze medal. The ensemble was recently placed in Open class by WGI and made finals in its first year also winning the open class fan favorite award.
FIU will continue its tradition of making fan friendly and entertaining shows while continuing to serve the youth of Miami and broward county. You can catch FIU at WGI and FFCC events as well as several performances throughout the counties.
